Ensuring the professions of medical laboratory science and anaesthetic technology deliver safe and effective services to the people of New Zealand
The Council has prescribed qualifications required for registration in the profession of medical laboratory science. New Zealand educational institutions who offer these qualification programmes are required to meet the Council's accreditation standards and undergo an ongoing monitoring process.
Also included in this section is information for organisations who provide continuing education and professional development programmes for registered medical laboratory scientists.
Sections 12 (1) and 12 (2) of the Act require the Council to prescribe the qualifications for each scope of practice specified by the Council and to monitor every New Zealand education institution that the Council accredits for providing those prescribed qualifications.
Providers of recertification programmes for medical laboratory scientists must have prior approval from the Council. All recertification programmes must meet the standards set by Council.
