Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand

The Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand (formerly known as the Medical Laboratory Science Board) is one of sixteen New Zealand health regulation authorities appointed by the Minister of Health under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (the Act).  The Council is responsible for the administration of the Act in regard to two separate health professions - the profession of medical laboratory science and the profession of anaesthetic technology.

The Register

The Council must maintain a public register of all Anaesthetic Technicians.  This register will be published following the inaugural registration of Anaesthetic Technicians effective from 1 April 2012.

For Education Providers and Training Hospitals

The qualification framework for Anaesthetic Technicians involves 3 distinct components: an academic programme of learning; clinical-based training within a Council-approved training hospital in New Zealand; an Anaesthetic Technician registration examination.  All three components are accredited and monitored by the Council
