Recertification (APC/CPD)

Recertification is a mechanism used by the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand to ensure that registered medical laboratory scientists and technicians continue to be competent to practise within their scopes of practice.

Recertification includes three key aspects: the issuing of an annual practising certificate; enrolment and demonstrated success in a recertification (CPD) programme; and annual audits of practitioners' recertification (CPD) programme records.

Annual Practising Certificates

Each year, if you wish to continue practising in your scope of practice in New Zealand, you must apply for and be issued with an annual practising certificate (APC).

Recertification (CPD) Programmes

The Council's recertification programme framework is based on a continuing professional development (CPD) model.

Recertification (CPD) Audits

An essential component of the CPD-based recertification programme adopted by the Council is the audit of CPD records.
