Locum Practice Policy

The Council recently consulted on its draft policy pertaining to practitioners working in a locum capacity.  A total of 149 responses were received with 95% of those from practitioners currently practising in the professions of medical laboratory science or anaesthetic technology.

The majority of consultation respondents - 96% - were supportive of the policy which states medical laboratory science practitioners and anaesthetic technicians working in a locum capacity must be registered and hold an annual practising certificate that does not contain a condition of supervised practice.

The Council would like to express their appreciation to everyone who responded to the consultation document and are pleased to advise the policy document has now been finalised.
