Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand

The Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand (formerly known as the Medical Laboratory Science Board) is one of sixteen New Zealand health regulation authorities appointed by the Minister of Health under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (the Act).  The Council is responsible for the administration of the Act in regard to two different health professions - the profession of medical laboratory science and the profession of anaesthetic technology.

This section of the website provides information for persons wishing to apply for registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or a Medical Laboratory Technician and those who have already been granted registration with the Council.

Scope of Practice Review - Outcomes

After considering all 447 submissions received from stakeholders, the Council has made a number of decisions in respect of its proposals for the future configuration of the scopes of practice and registration pathways for the profession of medical laboratory science.

Proposed Fees Review

The Council is seeking stakeholder feedback in respect of proposed changes to the fees schedule for medical laboratory science and anaesthetic technology practitioners.  This consultation is open until 17th July 2015 and your feedback can be emailed to admin@medsci.co.nz
