      The Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand is one of sixteen New Zealand health regulation authorities appointed by the Minister of Health under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (the Act).  The Council is responsible for the administration of the Act in regards to two separate health professions - the profession of medical laboratory science and the profession of anaesthetic technology.

  2. For Practitioners

    This section of the website provides information specifically of interest to persons wishing to apply for registration as a medical laboratory scientist or a medical laboratory technician and those scientists and technicians who have already been granted registration with the Council.

  3. For Education Providers

    The Council has prescribed qualifications required for registration in the professions of medical laboratory science and anaesthetic technology. Educational institutions who offer these qualification programmes are required to meet the Council's accreditation standards and undergo an ongoing monitoring process.

  5. Annual Reports

      The Council publishes an annual report for each year commencing 1 April and finishing on 31 March of the following year.  These reports summarise the key activities undertaken by the Council in that period and provide a full set of audited financial statements.  Click on the annual report you are interested in reading, to download a copy.
